Preparation before Hijama

Hijama is a great Sunnah of Rasulullah (SAW) and also an amazing way of healing.

  1. Fast at least 2-3 hours before your treatment “Cupping on an empty stomach is best. In it is a cure and blessing.” - Sahih Sunan Ibn Maajah 3487

  2. Drink plenty of water all day before doing Hijama however it is advised to stop 2 hours before Hijama.

  3. Warm shower/ Ghusl before session helps stimulate blood circulation and promote release of blood stasis. However, DO NOT shower 2 hours right before Hijama because your outermost layer, the epidermis, could temporarily retain moisture which could affect the skin’s response to the incisions.

  4. Consult with your healthcare practitioner before Hijama if you have any health conditions.

  5. Upon consultation with your doctor, stop aspirin or any blood thinner of any strength or quantity night before Hijama.

  6. Abstain from sexual intercourse or strenuous activities before Hijama.

  7. Avoid strenuous physical activities before Hijama. It is preferable to workout a day before Hijama while still avoiding exhaustion.

  8. Stop smoking for 2 hours before Hijama. Smoking is vasoconstrictor that raise up your blood pressure, heart rate and your carbon monoxide levels.

  9. Do not donate blood a month before of after Hijama.

  10. Do not apply lotions, creams or oils on your skin on the day you plan to get Hijama done.
